Recently, Trump issued two executive orders to dramatically expand logging across federal public forests, and many sources are reporting his plans to sell off our public lands entirely.1
For four years, I was the person in charge of managing our public lands as Secretary of the Interior. So, this issue is very personal to me.
It’s also personal because New Mexico has a significant amount of public lands, and tens of millions of acres in our state are managed by the federal government.2
There is a way to balance conservation and development – to create jobs, build solar and wind energy, and protect ecosystems.
But Trump is pursuing an all-out “drill, baby, drill” agenda and has even signaled plans to dismantle national monuments and other protected areas just as he did during his first term.3
His reckless actions have sparked protests nationwide, including at Yosemite National Park, where laid-off federal national park workers fought back against Trump’s firings. These protests serve as a clear reminder of the importance of protecting our national treasures and the livelihoods of the people who care for them.
Here’s my message to Trump: Hands off our public lands. They belong to all of us. They don’t belong to Trump or Musk – and they are not for sale to the highest bidder.
Please send a letter to your Members of Congress today urging them to take action.
