Dear Neighbor, I hope you are well! Coming to you this week are numerous updates, including what's happening at the federal level with the Department of Education, what we're doing to protect and preserve the Affordable Care Act in Pennsylvania, how we're working to incentivize childcare services, as well as a few events and programs. Remember, my Scam Jam is coming up on April 17! Check out how to sign up below. As always, I hope you find the information below informative and useful. | Statement on the Dept. Of Education | Take a look at the graphic above to read my statement about concerns regarding the Department of Education. | Op-Ed: Their Game is Chaos, Our Answer is Action | Many are wondering what elected officials are doing to address current federal issues. Don’t believe the lie that we’re doing nothing; my colleagues & I show up for work. But true strength is in the power of the People, when we stand up together. Click here to read my Op-Ed: https://tinyurl.com/RepWebsterSubstack | How to Contact Your Federal Representatives | Remember to maintain federal accountability and express your concerns and questions with your federal officials in the House, Senate, and White House. Let them know you are paying attention to what they are and aren't doing to protect your interests. Also, ensure your state representatives are informed too! | Protecting the Affordable Care Act in Pennsylvania | This week in the Pennsylvania House, we passed a package of bills protecting and preserving the Affordable Care Act in Pennsylvania. Through the ACA and Pennie, over a half a million Pennsylvanians are covered with high-quality, affordable health insurance. Any cut would devastate families' health and the healthcare industry in PA. The bills passed on Tuesday included: HB 404 (✅123, ❌79): The Health Insurance for Young Adults Act HB 535 (✅121, ❌81): The Health Insurance Protections Against Limitations Act HB 618 (✅125, ❌77): The Health Insurance Access Protections Act HB 755 (✅133, ❌69): The Health Insurance Preventive Services Coverage Act The bills now move to the Pennsylvania Senate for consideration. How can you help? Contact your State Senator and encourage them to support these efforts that protect your health. | Rally on Childcare Incentives | I spoke at the Children First Press Conference in Harrisburg on Monday to support Governor Shapiro’s $55 million budget proposal that would invest in childcare programs and workforce recruitment and retention grants. Childcare workers play a critical role supporting families in the early development of children, but we’re unable to recruit and retain them because they're underpaid. The ramifications are unfilled positions, understaffed locations, and workers finding different opportunities, leaving families waitlisted, parents unable to work which leads to economic issues, and children without necessary care. The solution is simple. Investing in childcare means our workers can be paid properly, parents can rely on childcare services and go to work, and children receive the care they need. | Scam Jam!
