The National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) is the most awarded in the UK & Ireland and is internationally recognised, More than 40,000 pool lifeguards qualify with the RLSS UK every year, and there are currently more than 80,000 pool lifeguards qualified in the NPLQ - 95% of all UK pool lifeguards. 

Becoming a lifeguard - next steps:
The next course is due to take place at Harvey Hadden Sports Village on 4-8 August 2025 for 5 days (all 5 days must be attended).

Course requirements:
Every candidate attending an NPLQ course must be 16 years old or above at the time of taking the NPLQ final assessment and be able to:

• Jump/dive into deep water 
• Swim 50 metres in less than 60 seconds 
• Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back in deep water 
• Tread water for 30 seconds 
• Surface dive to the floor of the pool 
• Climb out unaided without a ladder/steps and where the pool design permits.

We're offering a 6-day STA Award in Teaching Swimming Course at Harvey Hadden Sports Village for just £89! Working hours available: Monday – Friday 4-6.30pm and weekends 8am-1pm, delivering swim lessons (We are looking for people to commit to a minimum of 4 hours per week) 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲: £16.56 per hour 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲: You will also need to complete an NPLQ or NRASTC qualification to gain employment as a Swim Teacher with Nottingham City Council; these courses require a swim test, so you must be a competent swimmer.
