What are wildlife corridors? Simply put, they are strips of public land that keep the habitats, breeding grounds, and food sources of native wildlife connected. Having resources close at hand—and not fragmented by human development or intrusion—helps flora and fauna thrive.

Monte Rio Redwoods is home to a colorful cast of creatures, from the Sonoma tree vole to the northern spotted owl to the California giant salamander. Linking this property with other conserved lands will secure and stabilize breeding habitats for these and other threatened local wildlife that can only be found here in California.

This property is also home to the headwaters of three streams that feed into the Russian River, providing fresh cool waters that are vital breeding grounds for coho salmon and steelhead trout.

These waters also depend on healthy forests and stable streambanks—everything is connected.
