Lady Gaga To Lend Instagram Account To Community Justice Action Fund and Encourages Fans to Support Organizations Fighting For Social Justice CJAF will post on singer/songwriter's Instagram account with 42M followers on Friday to educate and encourage support for organizations fighting to end gun violence and police violenceWASHINGTON, D.C. (June 4, 2020) - On Friday, June 5, Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, and actress Lady Gaga will lend her Instagram account to Community Justice Action Fund [[link removed]] (CJAF), a nonprofit organization led by Black leaders building power for and with communities of color to end gun violence. CJAF will post to Instagram throughout the day Friday, and will encourage Lady Gaga's followers to support Black-led organizations like CJAF that are at the forefront of police violence and gun violence. CJAF posts will help to educate followers on the systemic oppression that deteriorates Black communities, silences Black voices, and takes Black lives every day.
On Thursday, Lady Gaga encouraged her fans [[link removed]] and followers to support CJAF and other advocacy organizations fighting for racial and social justice. "I applaud the brave citizens of this nation that are speaking up, and I support the unsupported voices of the Black community. I wish for their voices to be heard loudly and clearly, and that they feel loved and amplified by allies," Lady Gaga posted to Twitter [[link removed]] early Thursday. "Here are some of the important advocacy organizations I'm donating to in support of this continuous fight for racial and social justice. I encourage you to learn about the important work they do and how you can get involved. Black Lives Matter."
The support from Lady Gaga comes amid a national movement led by Black organizers to end police brutality and ensure justice for George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, who were murdered by police at gunpoint. As a Black-led national gun violence organization, Community Justice Action Fund is working to highlight the connection between police brutality and the daily gun violence taking place in communities of color, emphasizing that "police violence is gun violence."
"Black people are in pain and continuously mourning from the violence inflicted upon our loved ones," said Amber Goodwin, Executive Director of Community Justice Action Fund . "Lady Gaga is doing exactly what we are asking that other white privileged people with large platforms do, by actively de-centering herself, and amplifying Black voices. We hope other co-conspirators rise to these same actions at this critical time in our country."
Community Justice Action Fund, a nonprofit gun violence organization building power for and with communities of color through policy, has also recently launched the This is Our Ground [[link removed]] campaign to dismantle so-called "stand your ground" laws in states across the country that encourage escalation of violence, disproportionally in communities of color. During the month of June, which is Gun Violence Awareness Month, CJAF will continue to change the conversation on gun violence by galvanizing the power of people most affected by the pain to inform solutions.
About CJAF
The Community Justice Action Fund is a nonprofit organization building power for and with communities of color to end gun violence. CJAF is changing the conversation on gun violence prevention by leading with the people closest to the pain of everyday gun violence.
