Memphis Community Against Pollution (MCAP) President KeShaun Pearson, Young, Gifted & Green President LaTricea Adams, and Protect Our Aquifer Executive Director Sarah Houston at the Public Interest Environmental Law Conference (PIELC) in Eugene.
Hi John,
We’re sure you’re tired of headlines about Elon Musk, but we are supporting a direct fight against him that you need to know about.
Our dear friends and partner organization Memphis Community Against Pollution (MCAP) found out last June that Elon Musk-owned xAI had turned a facility in Southwest Memphis into a datacenter ([link removed]) and developed the world’s largest supercomputer. Memphis residents and advocacy organizations have been outraged ever since, demanding transparency and input in decision-making processes with the company. Meanwhile, xAI’s resource-intensive operations have only continued to expand in the area.

This poses enormous health and environmental risks ([link removed]) for the Boxtown community, which has a long history of being disproportionately exposed to a whole host of heavily-polluting industries, from coal, to ethylene oxide, to “natural” methane gas. Just last weekend, MCAP President KeShaun Pearson sat down with Memphis Mayor Paul Young for a broadcasted Fireside Chat ([link removed]) to discuss xAI and environmental justice.

Breach has been one of MCAP’s fiercest supporters since we partnered with them in 2020 to eventually defeat the Byhalia Pipeline in Tennessee. There’s a lot we can do to help Memphians – even from afar. In a fight against the richest man in the world, our most effective weapon is people power. Please take a moment to show MCAP that you’re behind them!
In solidarity,
The Breach Team
