John,
We’ll be real with you: we were planning to ask you to contact your member of Congress to oppose the SAVE Act (H.R. 22) — a bill that would derail election officials with unfunded mandates, open them to legal risk, and make it harder for eligible Americans to vote.
But yesterday, everything changed.
President Trump signed an executive order that forces through many of the SAVE Act’s most extreme provisions without a vote of Congress! It overrides state authority, imposes new federal mandates on election officials, and provides no plan, no funding, and no accountability.
Tell your representative: Stop this power grab.
This is executive overreach disguised as election reform — and it threatens the very foundation of how elections are run in America.
To make matters worse, the order gives Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) a role in reviewing state voter rolls. That means your voter data could be shared with a politicized agency operating without transparency, oversight, or clear limits. It’s a serious threat to privacy, and public trust in elections.
This executive order ignores the Constitution, the role of Congress, and the role of the states in setting their election laws. It is a blueprint for chaos – and for election officials on the ground, it is a legal and logistical nightmare. Election offices are already under pressure, under-resourced, understaffed, and often under attack. This order makes their jobs harder, not safer.
We need your voice. Tell Congress: Defend the people who keep our democracy running. Push back on executive overreach.
In solidarity,
The Issue One Team
