I saw a tweet that put it this way: imagine the Great Depression, the protests of the 60s, and the Spanish Flu happening all the same time. That’s what’s happening now.

That’s why we need progressive policies more than ever. Policies like a universal basic income, police reform, and Medicare for All.

Congress has shown that it is woefully inadequate in this moment. 40 million people are unemployed. The police are murdering Black Americans and beating protestors on video. Tens of millions of people are petrified they’re going to lose their homes, go bankrupt, or catch coronavirus and die because they can’t afford treatment. Yet the best Congress can do is toss us pennies while bailing out corporations.

What did they think was going to happen?

You can’t keep trampling on the people and expect them to keep on taking it.

I have spent my entire life fighting for progressive policies: as a human rights observer for an indigenous community in Mexico, a commissioner on the Tacoma Commission on Disabilities, a tenants’ rights advocate, and a Court Appointed Special Advocate for kids in foster care.

Now I want to fight for progressive policies in Congress.
