There is some alarming news coming out of Texas.
According to the Washington Post, a midwife has been arrested for assisting in an abortion, marking the first time that criminal charges have been brought under their draconian and dangerous near-total abortion ban and one of the few times a provider anywhere in our nation has been charged since the fall of Roe.
Be warned. Since stripping away abortion rights is widely unpopular, officials in Texas are treating this case like a MAGA-approved PR stunt. They are working to take focus away from the issue at hand and instead draw attention to an array of misleading information about those providing this sometimes lifesaving care to communities in need.
But we know better. This is just another attempt by anti-abortion legislators in Texas to scare healthcare practitioners and stop abortion access in Texas entirely.
This is why it’s so vital that we enshrine abortion rights here in Virginia. Between attacks on abortion pills and the recent uptick in lawsuits against providers in states nationwide, our rights are hanging on by a thread. People across the South depend on us to protect access, and we must follow through.
This amendment is not just about protecting the right to choose – it’s about defending the broader values of privacy, bodily autonomy, and freedom. Help us continue the fight for abortion access in Virginia by pitching in $25 today →
