Idaho Senator Mike Crapo

10 Weeks On, Home in the Gem State and Back to the Capitol

Wasting No Time on a Conservative Agenda

On Friday, March 14, the United States Senate wrapped up 10 weeks of consecutive session in Washington, D.C.  This was the longest continuous session in at least 15 years, and Senate Republicans worked around the clock to confirm President Trump’s Cabinet nominees and begin advancing his agenda as mandated by the American people in the November 2024 elections.

In response to the November mandate, President Trump is:

  • Securingour homeland by restoring order at our southern border;
  • Re-establishing American strength on the international stage;
  • Unleashing American energy by approving projects, restoring offshore drilling and rescinding onerous rules and regulations; and
  • Addressing the size and scope of the federal governmentthrough efforts underway at each of the federal agencies to root out waste, fraud and abuse.

In the first weeks of the 119th Congress, some of the efforts I have worked on and supported include:

  • Advancing the Senate version of a Fiscal Year 2025 budget resolutionto protect our borders, unleash domestic energy potential and take the first, long-overdue step toward getting our fiscal house in order;

At Home in the Gem State

Longer periods of working in Washington, D.C., mean fewer state work periods than in previous years, but I enjoyed my recent return home to meet with many of you.  While in Idaho, I met with hundreds of Idahoans from a range of areas, including:

  • The business community;
  • Energy companies;
  • Agriculture;
  • Local leaders;
  • Media entities;
  • Workers;
  • And more.

A snapshot of some of my visits is below.

I stopped in at the East Idaho News studio for a conversation with Nate Eaton. You can watch my interview HERE or read a transcript HERE.

Attended a groundbreaking event at Chobani in Twin Falls on a brand new $500 million expansion, which will bring more jobs to the Magic Valley and expand partnerships with local agriculture.

Visited with Idaho Steel.

Visited the South Central Community Action Partnership’s Self-help Housing Program, a one-of-a-kind program in Idaho where soon-to-be homeowners actively build sweat-equity to build their own homes.

Joined Matt Todd, host of The Ranch Podcast, to talk about a variety of issues.  You can watch the interview HERE, or stream the audio HERE.

Back to the U.S. Capitol

The next Senate session has begun, and I am back in Washington, D.C.  I am focused on continuing to advance a pro-growth agenda that will benefit Idahoans from all walks of life.  Chief among my priorities is one I share with President Trump--Preventing a Tax Hike on Idaho Families
