Hi team,
California is a mental healthcare desert. San Diego is no different.
Many claim California has one of the strongest and most robust healthcare systems in the country, but without mental healthcare a foundational service is missing. And federal funding cuts are threatening to make it even worse.
San Diego County is facing a crisis, plain and simple — and our mental health services are not meeting the needs of our most vulnerable communities.
That’s why we’re proud to see our Supervisor on the frontlines fighting for this issue. On the Board, Monica has fought for new mental healthcare facilities, more inpatient beds for existing facilities, and accessible, affordable services to prevent crises before they happen.
Because Medicaid funds a lot of these services, proposed cuts to federal funding will put hundreds of thousands of San Diegans at risk.
While we can’t predict what happens next at the federal level, it’s crucial now more than ever that we have partners at the state level committed to protecting our current resources.
