Today marks one year since the tragic collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge — a moment that shook our state and claimed the lives of six beloved members of our community. We stand with all Marylanders in remembering those we lost and honoring the families forever changed by this devastating event.

In the wake of disaster, Maryland came together and stepped up. Community members supported one another. Businesses supported affected workers. And our agency partnered with Governor Wes Moore, the General Assembly, and our colleague agencies to implement the bipartisan PORT Act and deliver relief to those affected by the collapse.
Along with the Maryland Departments of Labor and Commerce, the Office of the Comptroller helped identify impacted businesses, process relief applications, and we ultimately issued 38,887 payments totaling over $55 million. My team swiftly and securely deployed these much-needed funds into the hands of Marylanders who needed them most. It was a herculean effort done in the spirit of teamwork.
This anniversary reminds us of our shared loss — and the strength, unity, and resilience that defines Maryland.
My best,
