John — there’s a story that broke Monday that I still can’t wrap my head around. Here’s what happened:
Jeffery Goldberg, a journalist for The Atlantic , was unintentionally invited to a top-secret text chain that was being sent over a commercial messaging app, Signal.
This group chat included senior Trump Officials like Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and others.
You may notice a pattern here — these are some of the post high-ranking national security officials in the country with access to our most top-secret military information. The incompetence is truly unbelievable.
But it gets worse. In this same text chain with the journalist, they talked about an upcoming military attack that would be carried out on the Houthis in Yemen.
They discussed the targets of the attack. They laid out the weapons they would use. They confirmed the timing of the military operation.
So let’s lay this all out: the highest-ranking national security officials in the Trump administration unknowingly invited a journalist to a top-secret text chain where they then discussed sensitive, classified information about an upcoming military attack.
John, these people are a bunch of damn amateurs who are putting us all at risk by texting about military secrets. And as much as I wish this weren’t the case, I didn’t expect anything less after Republicans decided Pete Hegseth was the right person to lead the United States military.
Republicans are already trying to sweep this under the rug and lie about it, but we cannot let this story go. I’m calling on Congress to hold hearings immediately so we can get to the bottom of this and ensure that nothing like this ever happens again.
This level of incompetence is not only staggering, it’s a grave threat to our national security, and it needs to be investigated immediately.
Thank you,
Becca
