I'm not going to lie, John. I'm exhausted.
And I’m sure you are, too. The injustices we are facing now are nothing new. They’re the same injustices our current system was built on. We see you and how tired you are. But we have to keep fighting -- and we have an important action for you to take today and tomorrow to demand justice.
Tomorrow is Wear Orange Day. It also would have been Breonna Taylor’s 27th birthday. Wear Orange Day started as a Black-led youth movement -- and that should not be forgotten. After the murder of Hadiya Pendleton, a 15-year-old Black girl who was shot and killed in 2013, her friends wore orange to honor her death, starting Wear Orange Day. But they didn’t stop there. They asked us to continue the fight and take action in Hadiya’s honor, each and every day. That’s what we’re asking you to do.
Here's some background on today's urgent action: Breonna Taylor, a 26-year-old Black woman, was murdered in her home by Louisville police officers on March 13th. The officers barged into her home without warning or even so much as a knock, broke through her door, fired off more than 20 bullets, and ultimately murdered Breonna. Her murderers have not been charged and they are still on the Louisville police department payrolls as of today.
In honor of Hadiya Pendleton, we demand justice for Breonna Taylor. Here are your action steps:
