Dear Friend, For too long, we have lived in a country that treats Black lives as expendable and commits violence against our sisters and brothers without consequences. The murders of George Floyd, Tony McDade, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor are heartbreaking, especially because they are not isolated incidents. Instead they represent a pattern of ongoing systemic racial violence that has also caused intergenerational trauma in Black communities. Enough. We demand justice. We demand change. We are committed to amplifying Black voices and joining their demand for justice. We will follow the example of Black movement leaders in doing everything we can to dismantle the systems of white supremacy, including within our immigrant communities and immigrant justice movement. We urge you to: - Participate in the activities listed in Movement for Black Lives’s Week of Action.
- Consider contributing to local bail funds.
- Take a moment to follow, amplify, and support these Black-led organizations, and local Black-led organizations in your own community, that are fighting for systemic change.

The National Immigration Law Center is dedicated to defending and advancing the rights of immigrants with low income. We believe that all people who live in the U.S. should have the opportunity to achieve their full potential. The same system that devalues Black life and does not invest in Black communities is the same system that has separated families for centuries in Indigenous, Black, Brown, and immigrant communities; allows immigrant children and adults to die in custody; benefits from the labor of essential workers but does not provide them safe and dignified working conditions that allow them to thrive. It is the same racialized system that dehumanizes those seeking a better life in this country. We stand with Black community members and allies to declare #BlackLivesMatter. In Solidarity, Marielena Hincapie Executive Director National Immigration Law Center | |
