Incompetence. Disrespect. An embarrassment.

Friends, that is the only way I can describe the actions of those currently leading our national security.

Folks at the highest levels of our government, including Vice President JD Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and CIA Director John Ratcliffe, discussed sensitive, classified war plans in a Signal group chat that accidentally included The Atlantic's editor-in-chief.

All of these people know better. They have access to ultra-secure rooms and communications systems in which they are legally required to discuss classified information. They’re just choosing not to use them.

Any member of the military or intelligence community or any staffer with a security clearance at the Department of Defense who displayed that level of incompetence would face serious consequences because their carelessness threatens the lives of Americans and the security of our nation. And yet—we have seen no accountability from President Trump or his administration.

Today, my fellow Senate Democrats and I questioned our national security leaders to get answers on how the hell this happened. When I questioned CIA Director John Ratcliffe, he had no good answers.
