John, President Trump just signed an executive order to bring the DOGE playbook – a flood of half-baked and likely illegal cuts – to our nation’s elections. [1]

This is a full-scale attack on our most fundamental right: the right to vote.

Our experts are still digging into the details – and evaluating our legal options to respond – but here’s how this order could affect your rights:  

• Sharing your personal voter data with Elon Musk and his cronies at DOGE. [2]

• Endangering your right to register to vote online or by mail – making it harder for seniors, rural voters, and disabled voters to register and cast a ballot. [3]
  

• Throwing out your absentee ballot if it arrives after Election Day – even if you mailed it on time. [2]

Any state that implements these extreme demands will silence thousands or even millions of eligible voters. And any state that doesn’t – and chooses our rights over Trump’s agenda – would lose all federal election funding, blowing million-dollar holes in their state budgets.

Let’s be clear: This executive order would do nothing to secure our elections. It would make a mess for elections officials, demanding that election security agencies – the ones the Trump administration just defunded – audit every state's election system, without any resources to do it.

Trump and his allies are throwing a wrench in our elections systems and stacking the deck in their favor to solidify their power – no matter what voters like you and me think.  

It’s the same playbook they’re using with their anti-voter “SAVE” Act: spreading lies about the integrity of our elections, demonizing immigrant communities, and flattering President Trump and his election lies – at the expense of voters.

The truth is: A president does not set our election laws and never will. Trump’s executive action is just another baseless attempt to enact voter suppression across the U.S.

The courts will likely shut down this blatantly unconstitutional executive order. But when that happens, we expect Trump and his cronies to try to force this anti-voter agenda through Congress – like they have time and time again.
