The Message Seen Around the World

Hello John,

We cannot allow ourselves to normalize or make excuses for the level of incompetence we witnessed yesterday from the Trump Administration.

When I first read about what happened, I laughed—I thought it was a clever joke. As the story started to spread, I assumed it was just a slow news day. But about 30 minutes later, it was everywhere. I started diving into the details, and what I found left me in complete and utter disbelief. How could something like this happen? This level of incompetence is unimaginable.

National Security Advisor Mike Waltz added the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic to a message chain outlining United States military actions—before they were even launched. This is something straight out of The Simpsons, with Homer in charge of the nukes. As I write this, I still can't believe it happened.

Too many people are not being held accountable—including Trump, who handpicked this bigoted moron to lead the Department of Defense. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who is often labeled as "the experienced adult in the room," was also involved. So were the Vice President, the National Security Advisor, and others. Not only did they discuss sensitive military operations on an unsecured channel, but no one even bothered to check who else was in the chat?

Rumors are already circulating that Waltz was leaking classified information to The Atlantic before this incident. That’s why the editor-in-chief’s name appeared in the first place. If true, this is a massive national security breach. I would be shocked if Waltz survives this scandal and isn’t forced to resign by the end of the week. But we can’t let them simply pin this on Waltz and move on. This story needs to be front and center at every Republican press conference from now until the end of time.

Let’s be clear: felonies were committed. Whistleblowers have been imprisoned for leaking far less sensitive information than this. The hypocrisy is staggering.

This breach also gives us an unfiltered look at how these people think, what motivates them—and worse, now our adversaries know it too. Iran, North Korea, Russia, China—they’re all watching, and they will use this information to leverage their demands over the next four years. Our allies are watching too, asking themselves: Can we really trust the United States anymore? How could they, when these morons are in charge?

This story is far from over. We will be sharing it with veterans' groups, both Republican and Democrat alike, to hear their perspective. This should outrage everyone who has ever served—and everyone who has voted Republican for far too long. Now is the time to win them back. We must show them that our party is the one they can trust to stand up for their rights, their benefits, and the national security of the United States.

Moments like this define elections. We didn’t ask for this, but here we are—and now we must act. Campaigns aren’t won in the final weeks before an election—they are won in moments like today. That is why we need support right now.

The stakes are too high to waste this moment. Pitch in whatever you can so we can amplify our work and take this fight into ‘26 and beyond.

In Solidarity,

Hassan Martini
