Dear MoveOn member,
Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s DOGE just laid out a plan to force millions of Social Security recipients to file claims in person at a Social Security office rather than over the phone.1
The move is expected to devastate the lives of elderly and disabled Americans who are physically unable to travel, cutting them off from the Social Security checks they worked decades to earn and are legally entitled to.
Making things worse: Musk’s DOGE announced plans to cut thousands of jobs at the Social Security Administration and close dozens of local Social Security offices across the country, making it that much harder for millions of elderly and disabled Americans to access their own benefits that took decades to earn.2
Trump and Musk have declared open warfare on Americans who rely on Social Security.
That’s why MoveOn is jumping into action.
We’re launching an emergency response campaign to put up hard-hitting billboards in moderate districts with Republican members of Congress to demand that these representatives protect Social Security—and to hold accountable those who don’t.
On top of our billboards, we’re flooding lawmakers with phone calls, holding rallies outside their offices, and confronting them at constituent meetings to ensure they put up a fight to protect Social Security.
Will you donate $9 right now to help power MoveOn's emergency campaign to defend and protect Social Security, including our hard-hitting billboards? If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately.
Example of one of MoveOn’s billboards in Arizona’s First Congressional District holding accountable Republican Rep. David Schweikert.
On the campaign trail, Trump promised not to cut Social Security, one of the most effective and popular programs in American history.3 He lied.
For nearly a century, Social Security has delivered on-time payments to the seniors, disabled Americans, and families who rely on it.
Until now.
Now Musk and Trump want to force disabled and elderly people to present documentation in person, a barrier that will block countless Americans from receiving their hard-earned payments.
No wonder Martin O’Malley warned us, "Everything they have done so far is breaking the agency's ability to serve the public.”4
This is a hostile billionaire takeover and just the next step in their plan to completely destroy Social Security. But we won't stand for it.
MoveOn members have fought against Social Security cuts for more than 25 years. And now more than ever, we’re ratcheting up our campaigns to protect Social Security.
Will you pitch in $9 to help MoveOn's emergency campaign to defend Social Security? Your donation will power our billboards and ensure that we can continue organizing to stop Trump and Musk’s despicable cuts. If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately.
Thanks for all you do.
