By now, you’ve likely heard that a reporter was accidentally added to a group Signal Chain with a large group of the most senior Trump Administration officials — all the way up to the Vice President. They did this on non-government devices, and they proceeded to share classified and war planning information related to our activity in Yemen.
This leak cannot be a one-day story. It encapsulates so much about why this Administration is so dangerous. Here’s why I think this story is so important:
It matters because you are seeing a level of gross incompetence that I don’t know if we’ve ever witnessed in government before.
How do we know this isn’t happening routinely — that classified national security and war planning information isn’t being routinely sent to people who aren’t supposed to have it?
How do we know that our enemies don’t have key secrets about our national security? The sheer level of incompetence is staggering.
This also violated all sorts of laws. At minimum, it likely violated the Espionage Act and the Presidential Records Act, but that’s probably just the tip of the iceberg.
Once again, this administration is telling us that the rules don’t apply to them. Trump fundamentally believes his cronies, his acolytes and his billionaire backers are not accountable to the same laws as the rest of us.
If this had happened in any other administration or in the normal military chain of command, somebody would’ve been fired.
But Donald Trump has always believed that because of his money and his power, he is above the law. That’s why he’s comfortable doing corruption right out in the open.
This should matter to you because it exposes the disgusting levels of fabrication and lies being peddled by this administration.
Pete Hegseth, the Secretary of Defense, went on camera and claimed that no war plans were shared. He is trying to gaslight America in ways we’ve never seen before in American politics. The White House already confirmed the story happened, and the Secretary of Defense is now telling you it’s all a lie and that you should believe the on-the-ground truth.
It’s unconscionable gaslighting.
We’re being lied to and gaslit by this administration every single day. These guys are grossly, criminally incompetent. They are going to get Americans killed because of their uniquely toxic combination of carelessness and narcissism.
It is imperative that we do not normalize it.
