This month has proven to be overwhelming in more ways than one. We are still dealing with the ramifications of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our country is grappling with a legacy of systemic racism and police brutality. Hovering above both is the lingering question of whether this time will be different and we will finally see change.

Elections are not the only way to produce change. We have seen with our own eyes how activists on the ground have dramatically shifted the public debate. But electing officeholders who are accountable to the people is an essential task in affecting change.
This month is the Democratic primary in New York State. In addition to electing members of the State Legislature and Congress, there are several races for District Leader. These are important positions in the Democratic Party that influence the workings, priorities, and direction of politics in our state.
We were proud to endorse Jesse Pierce and Samy Nemir Olivares for District Leader positions in the 52nd and 54th Assembly Districts, respectively. Samy and Jesse are two inspiring and young progressive leaders who we are excited to see in public office soon.
This Saturday, at 1:00 PM, we're co-hosting a virtual day of action for Jesse and Samy with our good friends at Lambda Independent Democrats of Brooklyn.
