The U.S. House of Representatives is back in session for another week of committee hearings, legislative votes, and floor activity. For more information on what I'm working on this week, be sure to follow me on social media. I do not serve in Congress to be a caretaker in the slow demise of America— I serve to fight and work to make it stronger. That’s what I am doing while believing our brightest days are yet to come. Yours in service, Click below to follow me on social media. Mann.House.Gov The Week Ahead It’s been a busy start to the week here in the nation’s capital. This morning, I participated in the House Agriculture Committee Hearing on the U.S. Commodity Future Trading Commission (CFTC) and its future. In the last 50 years, we have seen significant changes in the markets, and it is important to ensure that the CFTC can continue to promote the integrity, resilience, and vibrancy of the U.S. derivatives markets and be the global standard for sound derivatives regulations for the next 50 years. The U.S. House of Representatives is continuing to consider legislation to undo President Biden’s Green New Deal agenda. Later this week, we will vote on two bills to nullify President Biden’s Department of Energy’s (DOE) rules that require higher energy conservation standards for commercial walk-in coolers and freezers in the name of climate justice. These burdensome rules only increase costs for small businesses, stifle innovation, limit choice, and impose overbearing requirements on American businesses. We need an all-of-the-above energy strategy that prioritizes American oil, gas, biofuels, and renewable energy sources, not a Green New Deal agenda that picks winners and losers. I will support both pieces of legislation. The House will also consider the Defending Education Transparency and Ending Rogue Regimes Engaging in Nefarious Transactions (DETERRENT) Act. This bill will hold malign foreign actors, colleges, and universities accountable by lowering the annual gift and contract disclosure thresholds from $250,000 to $50,000 and $0 for foreign entities of concern. Foreign influence is a serious threat to our university campuses, and we must increase transparency and accountability to protect American education and our students from foreign influence. It turns out the only thing we needed was a President who doesn’t run from common sense and isn’t afraid to enforce the law. Thankfully, President Trump is not afraid. Two months into his second term, President Donald Trump has done more to secure our nation’s border and protect our national security than President Joe Biden did in four years. President Trump made a promise to the country to stop the political theater, enforce the rule of law, and secure our borders for good. He is doing just that. Promises made, promises kept. Click Here to Read my Full Op-Ed Strengthening the Rural Health Care Workforce Today, I introduced the States Handling Access to Reciprocity for Employment (SHARE) Act, a bipartisan bill that will help address workforce shortages in rural health care by improving the licensure process for medical professionals. Too often, red tape and processing delays prevent qualified health care providers living in neighboring states from serving patients in rural communities like those in the Big First. The SHARE Act cuts through that bureaucracy by allowing the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to share criminal background information for licensure purposes, while preserving each state’s right to determine provider eligibility. This commonsense fix will help get more health care workers where they’re needed most and improve access to care through telehealth and other innovations. I’ll never stop working to expand care for rural Kansans and strengthen our health care workforce. Promoting Agricultural Trade Partnerships Robust agricultural trade is a key component of helping America remain competitive and secure and is essential for the success of our nation. It is good for farmers, ranchers, and agricultural producers, good for the American taxpayer, and good for the economy. When we invest in strong agricultural trade programs, we put taxpayer dollars in places they can see a return on those dollars. For every $1 of U.S. agricultural exports, $2.09 is generated in domestic activity. In honor of National Agriculture Day, I cosponsored a resolution reaffirming Congress’ commitment to strengthening American agriculture through expanded trade. Congress must pass a fiscally conservative Farm Bill that promotes strong trade programs like the Market Access Program and Foreign Market Development Program. Read the Resolution Here Protecting Kansans' Right to Bear Arms The Second Amendment is a load-bearing wall of our Constitution. If you weaken a load-bearing wall, you damage the structure—and the entire foundation of our freedoms is put at risk. Last June, the Biden-Harris Administration declared firearm violence a “public health crisis”. This declaration was just another attempt by their administration to undermine the Second Amendment right of law-abiding citizens. I cosponsored the Protecting the Right to Keep and Bear Arms Act to block the federal government from exploiting “national emergencies” to impose unconstitutional gun control measures. Law-abiding gun owners in the Big First and across the country deserve peace of mind that their rights will not be stripped away under the guise of emergency powers. Protecting the rights of responsible citizens is not optional—it is essential to preserving the liberty and security of our nation. Empowering Smart Dietary Choices The December 2024 guidance from the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee ignored the wealth of scientific evidence that affirms the nutritional benefits of animal protein like beef in combatting chronic disease. I cosponsored the Dietary Guidelines Reform Act to ensure that America’s nutrition policy is guided by transparent, science-based decision-making—not political agendas. Our national dietary guidelines have a direct impact on public health, school meal programs, and agricultural policy—which is why they must be rooted in the most current evidence and free from bias or ideological influence. This legislation brings accountability and common sense back to the process, so that dietary guidance reflects the needs of American families. Kansans deserve nutrition policy that’s honest, transparent, and rooted in facts, not far-left ideology. 2025 Congressional Art Competition Each spring, my office sponsors a districtwide high school art competition to recognize the artistic talent in the Big First District. The winning artwork of our district's competition will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol. The exhibit in Washington, D.C. will include the winning artwork from all participating districts around the country. I am excited to announce that this year's theme for the competition is Kansas, the Land That I Love. For more information on the rules and requirements for the competition, please click below or visit my website. 2025 Art Competition Meetings in the Office Hutchinson Airport Last week, I toured the Hutchinson Regional Airport. There, I had the chance to see their hangars and ongoing improvements firsthand. Regional airports like Hutchinson’s play an important role in connecting rural communities, supporting local businesses, and growing the economy of the Big First District. Thanks for the warm welcome and for everything you do to serve the Hutch community! Lineage Logistics I toured the Lineage Logistics cold storage plant in Dodge City last week. Cold storage companies like Lineage are an essential part of the agricultural supply chain, helping feed the world by ensuring our food stays fresh as it gets shipped around the globe. Leaders like Lineage serve at the forefront of keeping our country and the world supplied with nutrients and empowering America’s farmers, ranchers, and agricultural producers to feed a hungry world. Thank you, Lineage, for showing me around! Hutchinson Hospital I visited Hutchinson Hospital to talk about the challenges rural healthcare providers are facing in Kansas. We discussed the importance of protecting the 340B program, concerns about Medicare and Medicaid, and how staffing shortages are impacting patient care. Hutchinson Hospital plays a vital role in serving families in the Hutch community and surrounding areas. Thanks for having me!     Visiting Washington, D.C.?
