Donald Trump just announced he wants to bring back coal. He declared via Truth Social, that he’s authorizing his administration to “immediately begin producing Energy with BEAUTIFUL, CLEAN COAL.”

Trump’s new energy “policy” isn’t just outdated. It’s dangerous. Not only is coal expensive, but it is toxic to our health and planet. It made up over half of our electricity in 2000, but now it accounts for just 16% — because we’ve spent decades building cleaner, cheaper, and safer alternatives.

We don’t think “BEAUTIFUL, CLEAN COAL” means what he thinks it means, because it’s not just our planet at risk. It’s working people too. Coal mining shortens life spans, causes black lung disease, and puts workers in some of the most dangerous conditions imaginable. Calling it “beautiful” while ignoring the human cost is more than just out of touch — it’s cruel.

We don’t need a time machine.
