The emergency decision leaves our freedoms hanging in the balance, John

John, it's Andy from the Kansas Democrats.

Last week, Kansas Republicans declared an emergency to take final action on Senate Concurrent Resolution 1611—politicizing our courts. 🧑‍⚖️👩‍⚖️👨‍⚖️

I'd call this an emergency too, but not for the same reasons…

John, Kansas's Supreme Court has a nonpartisan nominating commission, courtesy of Kansans that previously voted to amend the direct election process.

It entrusts the decision to keep our courts apolitical with Kansas's most experienced, educated, and qualified citizens and attorneys to deter corruption and incompetence. Chip in to help us keep it that way! >>

The constitutional amendment Republicans are putting on the 2026 ballot would reinstate the direct election for Supreme Court Justices in Kansas, and if our own terrible experiences with this system weren't convincing enough, we can look at just how poorly it's going in other states at the moment:

🚫 North Carolina's 2024 State Supreme Court election results are STILL being disputed—with no resolution in sight.

🚫 Arkansas's most recently elected Supreme Court Justice has sent the court into a "tug-of-war," leading to nothing getting done for Arkansans in the meantime.

🚫 Wisconsin's current Supreme Court race has already seen record spending—with millions of dollars coming from out-of-state dark-money donors like Elon Musk.

John, the Kansas Supreme Court isn't for sale—but now it's at risk, and it's completely up to voters like you and I to make sure this amendment doesn't pass next year.

The Kansas Democratic Party is already working to help protect your rights and freedoms by electing more Democrats to the State Legislature in 2026, but it's even more important we get the word out about the Amendment that WILL be on your ballot in August next year.

Today, will you chip in to help us organize and make sure Kansas voters maintain their right to an impartial court?

In solidarity,

Andy
Executive Director
