Hi There – it’s Hannah, J Street’s Director of Government
Affairs.

Today, the Senate considered President Trump’s nominee for US Ambassador
to Israel: Former Governor of Arkansas Mike Huckabee.

When asked if he supported West Bank annexation, he said, "Yes sir."

When given the opportunity to support a two-state solution, he declined –
instead suggesting Palestinians move to other countries far away from
their homes.

When asked if Israel would remain a democracy if it annexed the West Bank
– and if Palestinians would have equal rights in such a case – he offered
only spin and dodges until the clock ran out.

Let’s be crystal clear about who Mike Huckabee is: An extreme ideologue,
with no interest in working toward peace, standing at the ready to do
Trump and Netanyahu's bidding.

He’s a threat to Israelis, Palestinians and efforts to restore the hostage
deal and end the war in Gaza. Pro-Israel, pro-peace senators must oppose
his nomination.

We’re in the midst of an extremely dangerous moment: Rather than seeking
to restore the hostage deal and ceasefire, the Netanyahu government is
reportedly considering plans for the reoccupation of Gaza. It all appears
to have Trump’s backing – apparently not content with destroying American
democracy, he wants to accelerate the destruction of Israel's as well.

A US Ambassador to Israel, especially at this moment, must firmly stand up
for Israel's security while also standing up for our shared values,
hostage families, human rights and America's strategic interests – and be
ready to push back on Netanyahu's government when necessary.

Huckabee’s testimony and record give no indication that he’s up to the
task. He’s unfit to fill this crucially important post.

Huckabee’s beliefs stand in stark contrast to the Jewish, democratic
values held by the overwhelming majority of our community. While the
Senate considers his nomination, we need you to join J Street in making
our voices heard loud and clear.
