Nobody is safe from book bans.
Yesterday, we stood in solidarity with students, staff, and parents to protest the book ban policy implemented by St. Francis Public Schools.
What happened: Monday, students staged a walkout at St. Francis High School in protest of its new policy on book content.
What caused it: In a nutshell, Moms for Liberty strikes again.
As reported in the Minnesota Star Tribune, 'parents filed suit against St. Francis Area Schools alleging the district unlawfully banned dozens of books based on the ideas they contained and the ratings of an anonymous website that recently went dark…Last fall, the northwestern Anoka County school district voted to update its library materials policy to primarily use ratings from the anonymous reviewer website BookLooks.org, which sought to warn parents of “objectionable content” in books.'
How we're fighting back: In addition to joining students yesterday, the School Board Integrity Project continues to work alongside our allies to ensure we continue the fight for every student's right to read and learn freely.
