Legislative Update SB 18: My bill to restrict cell phones in schools was heard in the Senate Education Committee. Thanks to Dersu, an ASD student who I am mentoring this year, for presenting the bill and answering questions from the committee. SB 21: The Alaska Work and Save Program has been referred to the Senate Labor and Commerce committee. SB 22: Financial Literacy in Schools was passed out of the Senate Education committee and is now awaiting a hearing in the Senate Finance Committee before it heads to the floor for a vote. SJR 10: A resolution urging Congress to award Hmong Veterans of the Vietnam War the Congressional Gold Medal was passed by the Senate and is now heading to the House Military and Veterans Affairs Committee. SB 112: My revenue bill to reduce per barrel oil tax credits had its first hearing in the Senate Resources Committee. I expect there will be more modeling done by the legislature's oil and gas consultants and we hope to have it moving to the Senate Finance Committee shortly after. SB 113: I introduced this bill to modernize Alaska's corporate income structure to make sure that out of state online companies that do business in Alaska have to pay the same taxes that Alaskan companies do. This bill is being considered by the Senate Finance Committee. Dersu spent his spring break here at the Capitol helping me with SB 18, to Restrict Cell Phones in Schools.
