Folks,

Last week, President Trump took yet another step to dismantle the Department of Education:

Trump signs executive order to begin dismantling Department of Education
CBS News

This is a major attack on a federal agency that serves students and teachers across the country. But unfortunately, this callous move comes as no surprise.

This attack was laid out in Project 2025, the conservative blueprint designed to overhaul our entire democracy. The very first sentence in the chapter on education reads: “Shut it down. Eliminate the Department of Education.”

And recently, Republicans from our target regions outright admitted that the Department of Education is a huge target in their cuts to federal funding. You can read more about that in the email below, but first, we’re asking you:

Will you rush a donation of any amount to fuel progressive organizers at the front lines of this fight? To protect the future of public education, we must continue building progressive power across the Deep South, Appalachia, and the Plains. >>

RUSH A DONATION

Hey — have you seen this?

Last month, a Louisiana Senator had this to say in support of sweeping cuts to federal funding:

“You better get used to this. It’s USAID today, it’s going to be the
Department of Education tomorrow.”

Headline: Why Some Voters Across the Country Backed Progressive Ballot Initiatives—and Donald Trump

We've already seen the GOP move to fund religious charter schools using taxpayer dollars in Oklahoma. Now, Republicans from our target regions are outright admitting they're targeting the Department of Education.

In response, we must continue our year-round work to build durable political infrastructure in communities that have been overlooked, excluded, and disenfranchised. Our target regions are ground zero for attempts to dismantle our rights, and under Trump's administration, access to public education is more threatened than ever.
