Governor DeWine, Lt. Governor Tressel Announce January TechCred Results
(COLUMBUS, Ohio)— Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Lt. Governor Jim Tressel today announced the results of the January TechCred application period in which 566 employers were awarded, providing the opportunity for Ohioans to earn 7,681 tech-focused credentials. This announcement also marks a new milestone for TechCred for awarding over 130,000 tech-focused credentials to over 3,500 Ohio employers since 2019.
“The strength of Ohio’s economy depends on a skilled workforce,” said Governor DeWine. “Through TechCred, we’re empowering businesses to invest in their employees and ensuring Ohioans have the tools to succeed.”
TechCred helps businesses address their workforce needs by upskilling current and prospective employees with the credentials needed for a tech-infused economy. Top industries funded in this round include manufacturing, educational services, and construction, which continues to show that Ohioans working in any industry can use TechCred to upskill employees. Businesses of all sizes, from any industry, are eligible for up to $30,000 per round and up to $180,000 per year.
“TechCred empowers business owners to select the training that fits their employees' specific needs,” said Lt. Governor Jim Tressel. "This ensures that Ohio’s workforce is not only skilled but also strategically aligned with the demands of the local economy.”
“Ohio’s growth depends on a workforce ready to meet the demands of a changing economy—TechCred makes that possible,” said Lydia Mihalik, director of the Ohio Department of Development. “By expanding access to in-demand training, we’re equipping Ohioans for the jobs of the future while helping businesses stay competitive today.”
“TechCred demonstrates the power of short-term credentials in preparing Ohio’s workforce for high-demand jobs,” said Ohio Department of Higher Education Chancellor Mike Duffey. “Hitting yet another milestone with the January application period reinforces the importance of this program.”
The current application period for Ohio employers opened March 3, 2025, and will close on March 31, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. Individuals and training providers interested in learning more about the program can visit TechCred.Ohio.Gov.
