Dear Friend,
Last week, President Trump and House Republicans doubled down on their efforts to cut Social Security and Medicare, programs our seniors have earned and paid into for decades. The Trump Administration announced that they are eliminating the ability to apply for new Social Security benefits over the phone, requiring seniors with limited access to internet or transportation, to go in person. At the same time, they cut thousands of jobs from the Social Security Administration and are closing dozens of office locations.
Now they are also attacking public education. President Trump signed an unlawful executive order to dismantle the Department of Education. While this order will no doubt be challenged in the courts, I’ve still received many calls from constituents expressing concern about how this action will impact our community. Cutting public education could mean losing student loans, a lack of support for students with disabilities, educators losing their jobs, fewer mental health resources, canceling after-school or summer programs, and so much more. In this country, every student deserves the opportunity, resources, and support to reach their full potential.
It's time for my Republican colleagues to step up and join me in fighting back against Trump's reckless actions. Keep reading below to learn more about how I’m working for you in Congress.
Upcoming Town Hall
I have done over 100 town halls since going to Congress and I firmly believe they are a cornerstone of our democracy. I understand my job is to represent South Jersey seniors and families, and to do that, I must hear directly from you.
I invite you to attend our upcoming town hall on March 27th. This is an opportunity to ask questions, share concerns, and learn more about the local, state, and federal government services available to you. I have been honored to participate in or host over 100 town halls during my time in Congress because ensuring my constituents’ voices are heard is a top priority. There will be time for questions, and constituent services will be available for anyone needing assistance with a federal agency.

Supporting the Emanet Family and Fighting Back Against Trumps Harmful Executive Orders
Rep. Norcross meets with the Emanet family
I recently had the opportunity to meet with Emine Emanet and her family after she was released on a $7,500 bond from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody. I was glad to have worked alongside the family and the entire community to help her get released.
Emine and Celal Emanet, local restaurant owners in Haddon Township were detained by ICE last month. While Celal Emanet was released from custody with an ankle monitor shortly after he was detained, his wife wasn’t released until about a week ago.
It was great to see Emine Emanet reunited with her family. The Emanet family's story is a clear example of why we need real immigration reform that will make a legal pathway to citizenship. While their legal battle is far from over, my office will continue to work with the family throughout the process.
Defending Federal Workers

Congressman Norcross questions witnesses during the House Armed Services Committee hearing on the state of US Shipbuilding. |
As co-founder of the Labor Caucus, I am working to make sure all workers receive a fair day’s pay for a hard day’s work, including in building Naval ships to protect our country. At the most recent House Armed Services Committee hearing, I made clear that we won’t have any problems hiring shipbuilders if we pay them what they deserve. Watch the full video here.
April 15th is Tax Day
The last day to file your federal income taxes for 2024 is April 15th. In preparation for Tax Day 2025, the IRS encourages taxpayers who have yet to prepare and file their tax returns to consider taking advantage of many free options available:
- IRS Direct File, the latest filing option for taxpayers, is a web-based service that allows taxpayers to file directly with the IRS for free.
- IRS Free File is a free electronic filing mechanism available for most taxpayers, only on IRS.gov.
- IRS Free File guided tax software products are available to taxpayers with a 2024 adjusted gross income (AGI) of $84,000 or less.
- The IRS's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) programs offer free basic tax return preparation to qualified individuals at locations within our community.
- MilTax generally offers free return preparation and electronic filing software for federal income tax returns and up to three state income tax returns for all military members, and some veterans, with no income limit.
Social Security to Reinstate Overpayment Recovery Rate
The Social Security Administration (SSA) announced it will increase the default overpayment withholding rate for Social Security beneficiaries to 100 percent of a person’s monthly benefit. This policy applies to Social Security retirement, survivors, and disability benefits. If Social Security determines whether you were paid more than you should have been, it can withhold your entire monthly benefit until the overpaid amount is fully repaid.
Since March 2024, the agency had limited overpayment recovery to 10% of a person’s benefit to ease burdens on beneficiaries. Under the new rules, effective March 27, any newly identified overpayments will trigger full withholding of benefits. However, the withholding rate for current beneficiaries with an overpayment before March 27 will not change and no action is required.

Donald Norcross Member of Congress
