Team,
The likelihood of the SAVE Act coming to the House floor is increasing, and we need to take this moment to make our voices heard. This dangerous bill could disenfranchise millions of eligible voters.
The SAVE Act requires that all eligible Americans provide proof of citizenship, chiefly with either a passport or a birth certificate, to register to vote. Over 150 million citizens don’t own a passport, and many don’t have easy access to their birth certificates. This would upend online voter registration and likely make it impossible to register to vote by mail. This would disproportionately impact military voters, tribal communities, rural Americans, disaster survivors, people of color, and working-class Americans — silencing eligible voters and undermining our democracy.
This is just the latest example of a string of schemes to make voting more difficult for citizens. The extremist lawmakers’ goal is abundantly clear: make it more difficult for certain citizens to vote, all while claiming to address very false claims of widespread voter fraud.
