Dear Friend,
Candice (pseudonym) was devastated when she discovered her ex-boyfriend had recorded sexually explicit videos of her and uploaded them to the web.
She never thought it would happen to her. But the exploitation didn’t stop there.
For months, Candice she was drugged and raped in her home and these assaults were recorded and posted online.
Another later partner of Candice also recorded and uploaded sexually explicit videos of her on the Internet.
In all of these cases, the videos of Candice were non-consensually uploaded to one website:
Pornhub.
Pornhub was profiting off of some of the worst moments of Candice’s life. When she sought justice by
filing a lawsuit
against the company,
her claims were dismissed.
Why? Because the court ruled that
Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act
shielded P*rnhub from liability.
Candice marks
one of many survivors who have been denied justice due to
Section 230.
Since the dawn of the Internet, this law has effectively protected large tech corporations like Pornhub from being held accountable for malicious or illegal behavior that takes place on their platforms. Because they can’t be held liable, they won’t make reforms, even when people are being abused, exploited, and even dying, as a result.
Why not? Sadly, because it turns a profit.
We must end Section 230.
Will you join a
Community of Defenders
, determined to end Section 230?
Defenders
donate monthly
in pursuit of a safer world for all people, free of sexual exploitation. This year, a key focus in how Defenders’ resources will be used is pushing Congress to repeal Section 230.
Just think: Pornography websites and Big Tech companies are some of the richest corporations in the world. And they are becoming even richer at the expense of the most vulnerable.
How much longer will we allow this to continue?
The answer lies in your hands. It’s time for their day of reckoning.
YOUR donation can get us there.
