Tonight’s Budget is a Budget for an election, not one for our country’s future prosperity. 
 
At a time when living standards have suffered the biggest collapse on record and when the security environment is the most dangerous since the Second World War, Labor’s Budget has failed to deal with the economic and security challenges our country faces. 
 
Tonight’s Budget confirms you are poorer after three years of the Albanese Labor Government. 
 
On energy, under Labor’s renewables-only energy plan, you are paying up to $1,300 more for power despite Mr Albanese promising you a $275 cut to your bills at the last election. 
 
This Budget confirms Labor has lifted spending by $425 billion – that’s around $40,000 of extra spending for every Australian household. 
 
Tonight’s Budget confirms there are deficits as far as the eye can see – and inflation is staying higher for longer under Labor. 
 
Migration is still out of control. Over five years under Labor, there will be 1.8 million new migrants in our country, whilst Labor’s housing crisis escalates. 
 
Labor’s cruel hoax tax changes in 2026-27 fail to restore the standard of living you have lost after three years of Labor. 
 
The Coalition will not support these tax changes that do nothing to address the collapse in living standards under Labor. Seventy cents a day, in a year’s time, is not going to help address the financial stress Australian families are currently under. 
 
They are an election bribe by a weak Prime Minister.  
 
They will do nothing to restore your household Budget now, at a time when the typical Australian household with a mortgage is $50,000 worse off. 
 
There are 41,000 new public servants under Labor in Canberra, at a time when services have not improved. 
 
A Coalition Government will always better manage the economy so we can pay for essential services and keep our country safe and secure. 
 
And a Coalition Government will increase Defence spending to keep our country safe and secure in an uncertain world.
 
Australians deserve better than this weak and incompetent Labor government. 
 
Ask yourself: are you better off than you were three years ago? The answer is no. 
 
Australians cannot afford another three years of this Labor Government. 
 
The Coalition will show leadership and take the necessary decisions to get our economy and our country back on track.
