By any measure the last few days, Bernie Sanders and AOC’s record-smashing “Fighting Oligarchy” rallies – including rallies in Republican districts – have to put them toward the top of the list of Democrats fighting with backbone.

The Hill: Sanders, Ocasio-Cortez rail against Trump policies at Tucson rally
The Guardian: Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the courage to brawl for the working class
To bigger crowds even than when he ran for president, Bernie is calling out growing wealth inequality and the influence billionaires – especially Elon Musk – have on the Trump administration.
To roars of approval from the enormous crowds, AOC speaks of the need to tax the rich, for guaranteed healthcare, and to pass a living wage.
The importance of these rallies goes beyond the visuals of big crowds. Bernie and AOC are building “muscle memory” for what may be ahead of us.
As Senator Chris Murphy told Jon Stewart on The Daily Show last week, there may come a time in the near future where the threat from the Trump administration is so grave, Americans will need to take to the streets, "not with hundreds, not with thousands, or tens of thousands of people, but with hundreds of thousands of people."
At these big rallies, people aren't just hearing Bernie and AOC. They are looking around and seeing that they are with 15,000 like-minded people. In the future, when everything may hinge on their willingness to be out in the streets, they will know they won’t be alone.
