I recently went on CBS News to discuss a few of the things we’re fighting against from the Trump-Musk administration.

Here’s what you should know:
- This administration is stripping away Social Security, brick by brick. They’ve started by requiring seniors to go to a Social Security office in-person to verify their identity instead of over the phone. At the same time, they’re shuttering many of these offices nationwide – including one planned closure in Carlsbad.
- Republican Members of Congress are receiving preferential treatment from DOGE – or as I call it, Destruction of Government by Elon. Meanwhile, Democrats like me aren’t getting answers from this administration.
- The impacts of DOGE cuts continue to be felt – especially by veterans. Thousands of veterans chose to continue their service through federal employment, and now have been left high and dry by their own country. I’m working on getting legislation put together to hire back these illegally cut veterans.
It’s clear that instead of thinking through the disastrous effects of these cuts, Trump and Musk are taking a “ready, fire, aim” approach.
I’m continuing to do all I can from my position on the Appropriations Committee to stop the deluge, but the real oversight can only come with a Democratic-controlled Congress.
