A message from Representative Ward:

"Aloha Friends and Neighbors,

As some of you are already aware, over the past few months, I have experienced several health setbacks including anemia and sciatica.
Recently, I was diagnosed with pneumonia. The recovery from various health issues has been a slow and painful process.

Despite the many efforts of medical professionals, my recovery has been much slower and more painful in the last few weeks. In the light of the recent pneumonia diagnosis, I have found myself at a difficult crossroad to decide my future as a member of the Hawaii State Legislature. Having served the great people of East Honolulu for nearly 27 years, it is with a heavy heart that I have decided to step away from what I have always considered the “People’s House” effective March 31, 2025.

It has been the utmost privilege to serve the people of Hawaii Kai, Kalama Valley, and Portlock. The “People’s Office” will continue to be open for business as the mouthpiece to express community concerns in the Hawaii State Legislature.

Although I will not be asking for your vote again, I only kindly request that my privacy and my family’s privacy is respected.

AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY

Representative Reyes Oda was delighted to meet with high schoolers representing the American Cancer Society’s Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN). She discussed the legislative process with them and went over several pieces of legislation they had been tracking regarding cancer prevention, detection, and treatment.
OCEAN DAY AT THE CAPITOL

Representative Shimizu attended the 3rd annual Pilina Kanaloa Ocean Day. He joined community leaders and coalitions at the State Capitol rotunda to discuss ocean and climate resilience goals. The event highlighted ongoing efforts to protect marine ecosystems and address climate challenges.
OLELO YOUTH CAPITOL COMMENTARY INTERVIEW

Representative Muraoka participated in the Youth Capitol Commentary (YCC) interview series, an initiative by 'Ōlelo Community Media that allows students to engage with lawmakers and community members during the legislative session. Traditionally held on Opening Day at the State Capitol, YCC 2025 has expanded to offer various opportunities for student involvement throughout the legislative period.
TRADES AND MOTORSPORTS FAIR AT THE CAPITOL

Representative Shimizu attended the 2025 Trades and Motorsports Educational Fair at the Capitol. The event featured impressive showcases, including the UH Rainbow Warriors Racing Team’s 2025 vehicle unveiling, student projects from Aiea High School’s Auto Program, and a cutting-edge concept motorcycle from PunishUM Motorsports. ADULT FRIENDS FOR YOUTH CAPITOL VISIT
Representative Muraoka had the opportunity to host Adult Friends for Youth at the Capitol, where the group shared their experiences and ongoing efforts to support at-risk youth across Hawaiʻi. The visit fostered meaningful dialogue about intervention, prevention, and mental health services. Their stories and perspectives were powerful reminders of the importance of supporting youth development in our communities.
OCEAN DAY PLASTIC DRESS
At the Capitol on World Ocean Day, Representative Matsumoto had the opportunity to stop by and check out her constituent Marianne Bickett’s amazing dress made from recycled materials! It was such a creative way to highlight the impact of pollution and why protecting our oceans matters. It’s always great to see people using art to share important messages.
RED HILL UPDATES

The Navy Closure Task Force-Red Hill recently conducted an Open House to update the public on the status of closure of the Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility. Representative Shimizu attended the event, where officials provided updates on the closure of the Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility and the ongoing monitoring of our drinking water. The event served as an opportunity for community members to learn about the progress and challenges in safely decommissioning the site.
VISITING THE PANTRY ORGANIZATION
Representative Pierick recently toured "The Pantry" organization’s facilities on Oahu. The Pantry, operated by Feeding Hawaii Together, is Hawaii’s only e-commerce food pantry, providing free, nutritious food to local families year-round. For over 20 years, The Pantry has served the Oahu community with a dignified, “grocery store-style” experience, allowing clients to select the foods they need, when they need them. This approach reduces waste and ensures access to culturally relevant options.
DREAMS DO COME TRUE….IN EWA BEACH

Representative Alcos was honored to participate in the groundbreaking ceremony for Campbell High School's new Athletic Complex Facility. As a proud alumni and former football coach, he described the occasion as a "Dream Come True." This milestone will have a lasting impact on future students and athletes. Go Sabers!
MILILANI MAUKA PLAYCOURT DEDICATION

Representative Matsumoto attended the Mililani Mauka Covered Playcourt Dedication. It was a wonderful celebration of a new space for the community. This addition will provide keiki with a safe and shaded place to play and stay active. Exciting to see investments that support local families!

ALOHA 'IA 'O WAI'ANAE AT WAIANAE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Representative Muraoka attended the Aloha 'Ia 'O Wai'anae event at Waianae Elementary School, hosted by Kids Hurt Too Hawai'i. The event was a wonderful community gathering, bringing together numerous service providers to support the Waianae community. It featured entertainment, free food, games, and more, creating a fun and supportive atmosphere for everyone involved.
E-WASTE RECYCLE EVENT

Representative Shimizu helped Battery Bill’s Go Greener event last weekend. The E-Waste Recycling Event raises money for the Moanalua Athletic Booster Club. He was also joined by the Kina’ole Lions Club, which Representative Shimizu is a part of.
MEETING WITH TEENPACT HAWAII

Recently, Representative Pierick met with TeenPact Hawaii's leadership class in Honolulu, where students learned about state government and leadership skills, including mock legislature and running for office from a Christian worldview. Pierick led a discussion, answered their questions, and shared insights on serving as a representative in Hawaii.
