Last week, Maura was in the Berkshires talking about how her administration is planning to make major investments in upgrading roads, bridges, culverts, and transit in Western Massachusetts.
Today, she stopped by the South Coast for another major announcement — South Coast passenger rail is back for the first time in 65 years.
This is a big deal. This is something that has been promised for seven administrations, but under Maura’s leadership we are finally getting it done. No more kicking the can down the road.
This is a win for the entire South Coast region. It’s also a win for the cities and towns, up to Boston and beyond, whose residents can now more easily come to the South Coast.
Not only that, but she announced that she’ll be making passenger rail free on the new Fall River/New Bedford line for the rest of March to express gratitude to the community and encourage residents to take the train. 🚂
Now Taunton, Freetown, New Bedford, Middleboro, and Fall River will be more connected than ever. Whether you’re traveling for work or leisure, the trip just got better. If you’re interested in taking advantage of the new service, you can use the link below to view train schedules.

And the best part? Maura’s just getting started. No matter where you live or how you get around, she wants to help. Her historic transportation plan represents an $8B investment in roads, bridges, culverts, and regional transportation systems across the state, making travel easier, safer, and more efficient.
Maura wants the journey to be easier in every community, making a difference in people’s lives where the rubber meets the road (and where the train meets the track).
And the more connected we are, the stronger Massachusetts is. Maura has so much left to do, and we can’t wait to see what’s next!
