APD officers responded to a call at the Tesla dealership on North U.S. 183 at 8:04 a.m. Monday and found "suspicious devices" upon their arrival, according to the release. The devices were later determined to be incendiary by the APD Bomb Squad and were taken into custody without incident.
Incendiary devices, according to the Department of Justice, are usually weapons or munitions designed to start fires, cause burns or respiratory injury through flames or heat.
The event comes as Tesla vehicles, showrooms and charging stations nationwide experience vandalism, protests and attacks in recent weeks in response to mounting frustration over CEO Elon Musk's involvement with the federal government. | » BECOME A PAID SUBSCRIBER: $7/mo | Last week, President Donald Trump, who appointed Musk to lead a new Department of Government Efficiency charged with reducing government spending and workforce, said his administration is treating property crimes targeting the Tesla as domestic terrorism.
The U.S. Department of Justice has charged three people in South Carolina, Colorado and Oregon for their alleged involvement in violent incidents targeting Tesla. | » BECOME A PAID SUBSCRIBER: $70/yr | Several protests have taken place outside of the Tesla showroom on North U.S. 183, including one on Saturday led by ResistAustin. The protest was part of the nationwide #TeslaTakedown efforts, that rally against Musk's role in Trump's administration. The protest Saturday was peaceful and took place outside the Tesla showroom along Pond Springs Road.
Representatives at the showroom declined to comment and directed media to Tesla's national press team, who have not responded.
The investigation is ongoing, according to APD, which said no other information is available as of now."
