Dear Friend of Press Freedom,

When a Mississippi judge ordered the local Clarksdale Press Register last month to delete an editorial because city officials didn’t like it, the outrage was swift — and warranted. That type of unconstitutional publishing ban only serves to chill free speech and cost news outlets time and resources to fight it.

While the Mississippi prior restraint was soon dropped, publishers and journalists across the U.S. are finding their critical reporting of the powerful is being met with extreme consequences — from the illegal police raid of the Marion County Record in Kansas to the arrests and prior restraints slapped on two Atmore News journalists in Alabama.

Join us for an urgent discussion on press censorship with publishers from the Press Register and Record and an Atmore News reporter.
