The Resource Management Act is broken and everyone knows it. It makes life harder for every New Zealander just trying to get on with life and run their business, their farm, or build their own home.
That's why I have announced our plan to scrap it and replace it with a set of rules that make it much easier for Kiwis to deliver the homes, roads, and energy we need to grow the economy, create jobs, and put more money in your back pocket.
And we're moving fast: with fresh legislation presented to Parliament later this year.
It comes off the back of a big few weeks for our efforts to grow the economy, and back Kiwis to beat the cost of living.
Our recent investment summit in Auckland attracted interest from around the world, as we launched major investments, like the Northland Expressway, which will unlock growth in Northland.
And last week the Prime Minister was in India, announcing the start of negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement, so we can boost trade, encourage investment, and create jobs across the country.
Going for growth is our top priority because that's the only way we can make life easier for every New Zealander.
Scrapping the RMA and replacing it with a new regime that unleashes growth is critical to that agenda. We are saying yes to more investment, a stronger economy, and a chance for every Kiwi to get ahead.
