Dear John,

Sarah Beth Amos, Kenlee Foskey, Lila Fraser, and Peyton Nobles were thrilled to finally get their NeW chapter started at Mercer University this spring when just weeks later COVID-19 forced colleges to close their doors across the country. The women from NeW at Mercer University were disappointed that they would no longer be able to host their first events in-person on campus and welcome new women into their chapter. But they didn’t let this stop them.

With the help of the NeW Campus team, the executive board at Mercer University planned a professional development webinar for early April. Using the NeW Zoom account, they hosted Alyssa Condrey, Director of Programs for NeW, for a discussion on “How to Land Your Dream Internship.” During the event, Condrey shared an insightful step-by-step guide on how to get a great internship. She covered lots of great content including the importance of researching the company or organization to sending a thank you card as a nice follow up.
After the event, NeW at Mercer University Chapter Leader, Sarah Beth Amos, shared, “NeW has given me a place to learn and grow and it is amazing that in this time of uncertainty we can come together to help and support one another. We have many members who are currently searching for internships, so we decided this was the perfect time to host our event "How to Land a Dream Internship."

The women were encouraged by the success of this event and wanted to provide additional professional development content for their members. Soon after, they hosted a second online event with Jessica Eskew, a Marketing Director for Aflac, titled “Elevate Your LinkedIn.” Eskew presented how three key features can set a profile apart – the profile picture, summary, and headline. She also expressed how a LinkedIn profile is a “living resume” and the importance of updating it regularly.

These events allowed NeW at Mercer University to invite women from their school to attend and introduce them to their chapter when most other campus events had been cancelled for the year.

NeW is privileged to support our women by providing exceptional professional development trainings like these and help them grow their chapters despite social distancing restrictions.
