John, earlier this month, Donald Trump threw a tantrum after it was made public he defied a federal court order. He called for the impeachment of the judge who issued the order, simply for disagreeing with him.
These actions are a direct assault on the system our Founding Fathers worked tirelessly to create. If they could see what’s happening, I’m convinced they’d think we're heading towards a monarchy.
The entire framework of our government rests on the concept of judicial independence. In the words of Chief Justice John Roberts: "For more than two centuries, it has been established that impeachment is not an appropriate response to disagreement concerning a judicial decision. The normal appellate review process exists for that purpose."
I’ve fought Donald Trump's agenda every step of the way by voting no on his cabinet picks, opposing his dangerous policies, and standing firm for the rule of law. This latest assault on the judiciary is beyond the pale. I will not allow him to destroy the very systems that ensure our democracy remains strong.
We need to stand together and fight for the courts and for our Constitution. We cannot let Trump continue to tear at the fabric of our democracy.
