Friend, to see the appalling extent of this administration’s callous disregard for humanity, look no further than its despicable treatment of Ukraine.
In the years since Vladimir Putin began his murderous invasion of Ukraine, America has stood firm as an enduring and reliable ally – supporting President Volodymyr Zelensky as he bravely leads a nation that is fighting, bleeding, and dying for its survival, independence, and freedom.
Then Donald Trump was sworn in for his second term in the White House.
Trump has called Zelensky a dictator – blaming Ukraine for Putin's cruel, bloody assault. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has called the idea that Ukraine could return to pre-war borders "unrealistic" – trumpeting a message of abandonment, surrender, and betrayal. Trump has attempted to extort Ukraine with a one-sided mineral deal. He has bullied and belittled Zelensky in front of the media in the Oval Office – which only elevated Putin and the Kremlin's propaganda. And he temporarily paused military aid and information sharing for Ukraine – inviting a military catastrophe and humanitarian nightmare.
But in an exceptionally cruel move, the Trump administration also recently ended funding for the tracking of tens of thousands of Ukrainian children who have been abducted by Russia since the start of the war. Now, crucial information on their whereabouts and status may very well have been permanently deleted – with devastating consequences for these children and their families. Imagine having your children stolen, sent to another country, and losing the ability to find them again. Imagine being such a child.
To see Moscow applauding and lauding Trump as he turns his back on Ukraine has been an absolute disgrace for America. We should not stand for it. We must not stand for it.
In the six times that I've personally visited Ukraine since February 2022, I have been deeply inspired by the resolve of Ukrainians who have lost lives, limbs, and loved ones. Their commitment to their country and fellow countrymen and women is unwavering. As is my commitment to them. They cannot be abandoned or allowed to lose. If Putin prevails in Ukraine, he'll seek to swallow other nations – NATO allies, like Poland, Sweden, and Finland.
Now more than ever, America must stand with Ukraine. Their fight is our fight. I will continue doing everything in my power to support their quest for freedom, sovereignty, and peace – not only because it's the right thing to do but also because our own national security hangs in the balance.
Sincerely,
Dick
