Riders, from students to seniors, come together to "protect Muni now and keep Muni forever" |
Thank you to all the riders who joined SFTR and the Muni Now Muni Forever Campaign at the "Protect Muni Now, Keep Muni Forever" rally last week.
Despite the overwhelming support for Muni, the SFMTA Board of Directors ultimately decided to move forward with the proposed service cuts. “San Francisco Transit Riders is disappointed that the SFMTA Board decided to dismiss these people and move forward with service cuts, rather than use a small amount of agency reserves to address this year's fiscal emergency,” said Dylan Fabris, the Community and Policy Manager at the San Francisco Transit Riders.
“We will continue to fight for the 64 public commenters, the over 250 people who attended today's rally, the 5,362 people who wrote letters to show their support for Muni service, and for the hundreds of thousands of other daily Muni riders who could not attend today’s hearing. We remain committed to stopping cuts and addressing the larger Muni budget deficit, along with our partners in the Muni Now, Muni Forever campaign and public transit supporters across the city.
We thank Supervisors Fielder, Melgar, and Mahmood for their support and hope Mayor Lurie and the rest of the City's leadership will rise to the challenge and approve a General Fund transfer to stop these cuts so we can move forward to longer-term solutions to the deficit together.”
