Email from Rep. Malliotakis My friend, In case you missed it, the New York City Council has repeatedly tried to undermine the fundamental right of American citizens by allowing non-citizens to vote in our elections. We refused to let this happen. We sued, we won in three courts and we finally stopped them! I was a lead plaintiff in this lawsuit alongside my mother, Veralia, a Cuban refugee, and other local elected officials. Last week we prevailed in our final court battle, putting an end to New York City’s Non-Citizen Voting Law once and for all. The state’s highest court, the Court of Appeals, upheld our victory, siding with us and two lower courts in striking down this unconstitutional law. There is nothing more important than preserving the integrity of our election system, and in today’s age, the government should be working to create more trust in our elections, not less. The right to vote is a sacred right given only to United States citizens. It is my hope that left wing lawmakers stop pushing these unconstitutional and reckless measures that dilute the voices of American citizens. Learn more by reading below. I will continue to stand with you to defend this sacred right! Sincerely, Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11) THE NEW YORK POST NYC’s law allowing noncitizens to vote is dead as state’s highest court shuts it down Rep. Nicole Malliotakis served as a lead plaintiff along with her mother Veralia, a Cuban refugee, in the lawsuit joining other local elected officials. She previously argued the law, if it had gone into effect, would have made individuals in migrant shelters eligible to vote in New York City elections after 30 days if they had received work authorization.
