Friend,
As a health promoter in the Tondo district of Manila, Philippines, my Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) colleagues and I do more than identify tuberculosis (TB) patients. We forge personal connections with our patients, and we speak to one another like family.
My patients tell me their stories, and I listen. I speak their language—both literally and figuratively. In the Philippines and around the world, locally-hired MSF staff members like me ensure that our care is both effective and culturally responsive. When we meet our patients where they’re at, we can save more lives.
Our vital work relies on individuals like you who keep MSF independent—so we can go wherever we’re needed most. Today, on World Tuberculosis Day, please consider expanding your impact with a matched gift.
Starting today, your TRIPLE-MATCHED gift will go three times as far to support independent, culturally responsive medical care—including TB care—in the Philippines and over 70 countries around the world >>

MSF’s response to TB goes beyond diagnosis and treatment. In 2017, we launched the endTB clinical trial to find shorter, more tolerable drug regimens for the millions of people living with TB worldwide. This is especially important for MSF’s work fighting TB, as traditional treatment can take up to two years. The World Health Organization recommended three new regimens as a result of our research.
Every day in the streets of Tondo, I see the impact of MSF’s work. It’s thanks to individuals like you that, since starting our work in this neighborhood, MSF has screened 38,465 people and diagnosed 1,826 patients with TB. Right now, as the Manila Health Department struggles with a drug shortage, your support can keep our TB response in Tondo strong, while also continuing our other lifesaving work across the globe.
Make a triple-matched gift today and help power independent, innovative care in the Philippines and beyond >>
Gratefully,
Erwin Canona
