SENATE UPDATE: Back to Work

As the Senate continues to confirm nominees, it must now turn to passing major reforms through budget reconciliation

Last Week

  • The U.S. Senate was in recess last week for its first State Work Period of 2025.

Conservative Spotlight

TOMMY TUBERVILLE — Senate Conservatives Fund has endorsed Tommy Tuberville for re-election to the Senate in 2026. The former Auburn football coach is building a legacy in Washington to match his legendary record on the gridiron. Throughout Tuberville’s first term, he has fought for President Trump, conservative principles, and America First at home and abroad. We cannot wait to help Sen. Tuberville’s campaign, and to see what he’ll do with another six years in Washington.

CYNTHIA LUMMIS — U.S. Sen. Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) is gearing up to run for re-election next year, too. The Wyoming conservative stalwart — lovingly known as “Crypto Queen” for her advocacy of digital currencies — has had an excellent first term in the Senate. Conservatives have been urging Lummis to seek another term, and reports out of the Cowboy State suggest she will be back on the ballot in 2026.

TED CRUZ — U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) just stepped up for Texas families by stepping into one of the biggest political fights of 2025. Gov. Greg Abbott and Texas conservatives are trying once again to pass universal school choice over the objections of Democrats and establishment Republicans. True to form, Cruz is going the extra mile in this battle. He is personally launching a $250,000 advertising campaign to support the conservative freshman legislators sticking to their guns against Austin elites. Leave it to Cruz to lead a fight against the establishment even when the Senate is out of session!

This Week

The Senate has two confirmation votes already teed up for this afternoon:

  • John Phelan to be Secretary of the Navy, and

  • Christopher Landau to be Deputy Secretary of State.

Several other Trump nominees could be processed this week, too, including:

  • Michael Kratsios to be Director of President Trump’s Office of Science and Technology Policy;

  • Dr. Jay Bhattacharya to be Director of the National Institutes of Health;

  • Dr. Martin Makary to lead the Food and Drug Administration;

  • Dan Bishop, former congressman from North Carolina, to be Deputy Director of the Office of Management and Budget;

  • Aaron Reitz, currently Sen. Ted Cruz’s chief of staff, to be Assistant Attorney General.

The Senate is scheduled to meet for each of the next three weeks before taking another recess in April for Holy Week. Behind the scenes this month, Senate Republicans should start to finalize their plans to extend the 2017 Trump tax cuts, implement DOGE budget reforms, and permanently secure the border. Promises made must be promises kept.

Thank you for everything you do to help Senate Conservatives, the conservative movement, and our nation.
