Dear John,

This week I’ve been spending some time visiting my home town, our nation’s capital, Washington DC.

It’s been great to spend some time with my mom, and the sights of the Potomac River with all the historic monuments offer many fond memories.

But now, all of that carries a sorrowful weight as well. Yes, the great buildings still stand, but inside the White House, a President is trying to tear down everything that Washington, Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr, and so many other forebearers fought for. From gutting the federal government, to threatening to impeach judges who rule against him, to erasing whole identities of diverse Americans from government records and websites.

Here on the east coast, I am reminded why the work we are doing on the west coast is so vital. We absolutely have to take back the U.S. House Majority in 2026 and put a check on this reckless, disgraceful administration.

Right now, I am working to finalize our list of official target districts. But the more grassroots support we have, the bolder we can be. Will you consider rushing a donation before I sign off on our final list of targets?

What gives me optimism through all this chaos and misery is that our capital has been through dark times before.

This may be the biggest crisis our democracy has ever faced, but it is not the only one.

The reckless people who have ushered in other ugly chapters in our country’s history have walked these streets and occupied these offices in our halls of government. And now they are gone. Just a dark and shameful memory.

That’s what I hope this Administration becomes too. A dark stain that eventually fades away.

But that won’t happen with just wishful thinking. We have to be the brush that scrubs this Administration from Washington DC’s walls. It’s hard, and sometimes demoralizing and frustrating work for those who have been in the fight for so long.

But can we do it? Absolutely YES!
