Last Sunday there was a Rally Against Police Brutality in Gifford across from the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office in response to the killings of black Americans. It was organized by Pioneering Change, Inc., a local community organization. Thank you to Pioneering Change for organizing a peaceful and respectful rally!

Today at 5 p.m. there is a “Justice for George Floyd” Rally at Vero Beach Police Headquarters located at 1055 20^th Street. Here is the full link to today’s event: [link removed] ([link removed])
On Sunday, June 7^th at 6 p.m. there will be a memorial vigil at the Gifford Historical Museum and Cultural Center to honor the lives of those lost to police violence. Masks and social distancing will be required. Bring your own chair.

** DEMOCRATIC EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE ELECTIONS – We are still looking for Precinct Captains and Leadership Positions

The Democrats of Indian River Executive Committee (DEC) believes in the Democratic ideals of social, racial, economic, and environmental justice. As the county arm of the Florida Democratic Party, we oversee all Democratic Party activities in Indian River County.
The DEC is an elected body comprised of members, called Precinct Captains, who act as neighborhood organizers to register voters, increase voter turnout and engage fellow Democrats in their precincts.
If you would like to become a Precinct Captain, you must qualify by filing a Candidate Oath with the Supervisor of Elections between June 8-12, 2020. Elections will be held at the December 17, 2020 Organizational DEC Meeting at which precinct captains and officers will be elected.

** WHAT ARE WE WORKING ON?
------------------------------------------------------------

This week during our weekly Zoom Precinct Action Committee (PAC) we discussed: our Small County Coalition Grant through the Florida Democratic Party vs. the goals we have set for our county and the most effective way to proceed; strategized about how we could reach Returning Citizens to sign them up to vote; and evaluated our precinct tracking metrics (keeping track of the calls made and who is doing them). Whew! There is a lot going on behind the scenes!
Our volunteers continue to amaze us with their dedication to this project. Making phone calls is time consuming and can be a difficult task. Sometimes the phone numbers are wrong, people don’t answer and you end up leaving a lot of messages. Despite these challenges, our volunteers continue calling because they know signing up people to vote by mail is very important in this election. We are forever grateful for their hard work and dedication. Thank you volunteers!

** If you haven’t signed up to Vote By Mail, go to the Florida Democratic Party website [link removed] and sign up! The FDP website is keeping track of VBM requests through their online tool and gives us a clearer picture of how many Democrats in Indian River County are signing up.

DEMOCRATIC CLUB JUNE 10^TH ZOOM MEETING

** The first virtual Democratic Club meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 10^th at 6 p.m. via Zoom. The Zoom app is very easy to use and will help club members continue to meet while practicing social distancing. The Zoom link will be sent via email early next week.

** Members will be able to see each other and socialize, followed by a short business meeting. A special segment will feature Club members relating their stories of how the pandemic and closed economy has, and still is, affecting them and their loved ones.
