Today marks the 15th anniversary of the signing of the Affordable Care Act, a landmark piece of health care legislation that lowered health care costs, protected those with pre-existing conditions, and helped millions of Americans become insured.
With the enactment of the ACA, there were thousands of people in my district with pre-existing conditions who could no longer be denied affordable health insurance, small business owners who were now eligible for tax credits to help employees with health insurance, and senior citizens who benefited from a stronger Medicare. This legislation was life-changing for millions.
For those reasons, I supported the Affordable Care Act in 2010. I believe we have a moral obligation to ensure that all Americans — regardless of race, ethnicity, geography, or income — receive the health care they need to lead healthy and productive lives.
